Hello, I want to share with you about #BoycottNaverWebtoon in Korean.
Never Webtoon has been censoring "🤏" based on the rumor that it is a male-hating expression, and they forced the authors to revise the paintng. Korean incels made terror attacks authors with comments when they saw a drawings similar to 🤏, and NW left it on the sidelines.
On the other hand, they did not impose any sanctions on the misogynistic participating works of the webtoon contest. The title of the work is "Isegye Pongpongnam", and "Pongpongnam" is a slang derived from group rape.
*Pongpong is the product name of detergent. Among Korean incels, they liken group rape to dish-washing. And Pongpongnam is the word that make a fun of the last man who rape because of his weak power. Now, Pongpongnam is usually used for scroning the married man.
Also, it imply nonobjective information, for example, "Korea laws are so favorable for woman". Author said he he was consulted by a divorce lawyer over the phone. And Naver Webtoon justified the misogynistic contents of comics with his claims. And there were a lot of comments that implying misogyny(ex: feminist are gaving a bad review with blood shooting(they are insulting period)), but they didn't censored it. Female readers boycotted the Naver Webtoon from Oct 6th. But NW still didn't take any action and they explained the reason: They don't want to be labeled as a feminist company. (https://n.news.naver.com/article/008/0005098432)
Also, one of the staff of NW wrote a comment that they support <Isegye Ponponnam> at 블라인드(Blind: Korean office worker's online anonymity community). Not only misogyny, but also showing the support for the entry is also the controversial issue.
There are also allegations that they are deleting negative reviews by women through Google Play Store.
